Showing Holistic and Compassionate Care to Persons Suffering from Schizophrenia
I had a college friend who was a classic geek and he was very famous. He used to dress poorly, not competent while socializing with fellow friends and he would get abusive or sarcastic while conversing with others. He used to face difficulties and rough times because of his behavior towards others. Later we noticed that our fellow student was suffering from Schizophrenia.
The mental incidents, would not bother to suppress whether in social functions or within a crowd. For instance, he gets hysterics whenever he comes across someone performing. People suffering from Schizophrenia are a challenge to interact and understand, and these leaves a dilemma in the community on how such individuals manage their life. As for our friend, we would try and calm him down and show some compassion and it was how we survived. We could try to get him away from the sight of the cruel crowd.
The bigger percentage in our society is not aware of the inappropriate and feelings experienced by persons with mental disorder and may harm them to protect themselves. The upright metal persons may think like it is a weird behavior that the ailing individuals possess. Being not aware of the suffering and challenges our friend was going through due to his mental condition was an excuse given by many. Expecting the upholding of humanity principles in a Christian institution, our friend was openly disdain actions that I could not apprehend.
Being a condition of a mental disorder such individuals face rough time in their daily life due to the manner in which they are treated in the community. It is the responsibility of all including the church to extend care and love to the schizophrenia ailing persons. We have to live in reality and understand every disorder is manageable, and there are right medications to help these patients recover. We believe and pray God to heal us, taking the right medication is not wrong and should not be branded as going against the teaching of the church.
The big question remains, what effects do mental treatments have on our Christian faith, that is different from physical therapies. What makes antidepressants different from chemotherapy Dividing the mind and the body may not assist us in building a conducive environment for our loved ones. As the church puts it , that it is a spiritual matter that requires spiritual intervention. We however, need to be real when dealing with the patients who are
experiencing mental disorders.
It seems our people in the society have started taking an influential step towards the mental illness subject. In the church today, counseling and medication and CBD oil are recommended for mental illness. The step shows commitment and passion towards the Schizophrenia patients in our society.
